Day 107: We Need a Theme Song

Point of this post: We need a theme song. Something that starts playing when you open this blog. And HateToHelp, for that matter. I bet they'd be different. The Smiths, with such hits as, "Girlfriend in a Coma", "America is Not the World," and "Some Girls are Bigger than Other Girls," seem a good bet.

The story that kind of connects:
I'm sure you will be shocked to know that, outside of this blog, Lara and I lead intense email lives. In a recent hourly group exchange with friends, we batted the following question back and forth. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. And I laugh a lot. Laughing, like berries (remember that post?) is great for your health.

What is the most inappropriate song you can think of to play for a couple's first dance at a wedding?

Poppy and apparently upbeat ones:

That Boy is Mine, Brandy and Monica
Under Pressure, Queen/David Bowie
I'm a Slave For You, Britney Spears
Stuck in a Moment, U2
Love The One You're With, Crosby Stills & Nash
I Don't Want to be a Player No More, ?
Stan, Dido's remix with Eminem
I Touch Myself, Divinyls (?)
Goodbye Earl, Dixie Chicks

Inappropriate slow songs that would be funny and make people go "huh?":

She's Like the Wind, Patrick Swayze
Lady in Red, ?
I Do or Hallelujah, Jude covers
Behind the Wall, Tracey Chapman
Strong Enough, Sheryl Crow
Foolish Games, Jewel
Better Man, Pearl Jam
Both Sides Now, Joni Mitchell

We need your help. Think of more. And we also need a themesong. Why? Because maybe then the people who had this discussion (above) will be a bit more animated when they read this blog (see below for pic of non-animated non-enjoyable blog-reading due to lack of themesong).

During their most frenzied LSD period, the Grateful Dead used to perform a painfully loud, long "sound poem" consisting of guitar feedback, random drums and moaning. It was called "What Have They Done With the Baby?"

Uncle Paul recalls that at his brother's wedding, the bride and groom's first dance was to a Bob Dylan song, "You Ain't Going Nowhere." Paul's father comented, "That's appropriate!" (They later divorced.)

*Standing with my hand on my hips, making an appropriately pouty face* But I love Lady in Red. It's my favorite song, ever! T and I are going to dance to that when we get married. I don't care what y'all say - cheesy 80's music rocks!

i nominate chris isaac's "wicked game" for HatetoHelp. maybe manu chau's "bongo bong" for this one? although the lyrics issue is a good one so maybe something without any would be best.
p.s. love your blog! very envious of your travels!!

Yesterday by the Beatles. This actually happened at my friend's wedding (in Turkey, and fortunately not too many people spoke English fluently enough).
