Day 150: It's....Perth! (*maybe)

The announcement: We have been heavily, heavily resesearching*, and have made the decision that the 2007 Claire and Lara TrippingOnWords Marathon (for clarity: in which we run, not blog a lot) will be in Perth, Australia circa July 1, 2007.

Reasons: Perth is, supposedly, the most isolated metropolitan city in the world (we need to google the actual fact here, but it is something about how the closest plane flight is somewhere in Malaysia or something). Also, we (Claire; Lara says she does want to go, though) have bêen dying to go since we read that weird travel book about a family going around the world: One Year Off.

The Lapland Santa Claus Artic Run came in a close second, but if anyone knows of another June-ish 2007 international mararathon that is not going to be really hot, that is not really hilly, and has something unusual about it (this one hás 250 people), please let us know.

Further information:
Charity to be identified. *Hopefully* by then See Jane Run or some other interesting outfit will be sponsoring our shoes. (See Jane Run: Claire wore yours for Madrid 2006, so please seriously consider our proposal because we love you like a sister.) For those who have not yet received invites, you are all welcome, and encouraged to come, because it will be weird.

Lara's Official Response: what a wonderful idea! I cannot wait to have a structured fitness program that ups my weekly running quota by 8 million percent!!! I love challenges!!! This will be so hard...but pain is good!!! It HAS been too long since I threw up from working out! At least there's only 250 participants so I can be THE LAST PERSON to cross the finish line. BY A LOT.

Lara's Actual Response: !@#$)*&!@#$)*!@#$()!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have one conversation in which you say you might MIGHT think running a marathon is not the most horrible thing you have ever heard. And look what happens. !@#$!@#$@ now I'm committed. Screw it...GAME ON!!! PERTH 2007 BABY!!!!!!!!!! Let's go running! Well, I'll go when my back stops hurting from sitting on my @#$@# for too many hours in a row on the bus.

*There may have been three online sites consulted, at the absolute maximum.

Good for you: Goals like that are necessary, I think, and I definitely applaud you (both!) for taking the leap (or extended stride, in this case)to do this marathon.

I loved that book! It drove me crazy for months after I read it. Keeps me going when T wants to get a bunch of shit to fill the house with "No, no, I want to travel the world for a year, what would we do with this stuff?" after which T looks at me like I've lost my mind...

Going to Australia is a great goal; running a marathon, further evidence of y'all's craziness...

That's so cool! Sorry, I'm just another random person who found your blog after it became famous - but I live in Perth, Australia. Good place, fun people, you'll meet everyone in about three seconds. What marathon in Perth though?? Will you just run through the whole city, because basically that'd probably take the same time?

It's a great idea to do a marathon while traveling. I've heard people say it's difficult to run (for exercise) when traveling internationally. You will prove them wrong and have a great time, too.
