Turns out Claire has continued to obsess about getting the penguin picture onto our blog. She can't.
Let's get this straight...Claire spends more time on her computer than anyone ever. She has one of the most well-developed cyber social lives I have ever encountered...and unlike most people, this is not because she does not have any friends in the real world. She is just very social, and very industrious.
This is why it is shocking that Claire knows nothing about computers.* At all. We frequently have to call/email/text my brother (the one with the children) in some way to make sure he gets in touch with me within the hour so we can figure out how to double click on something called "Control Panel." If he is not available, Claire then gets in touch with the guy from our freshman dorm, Andy, who was devoted to fixing her laptop from circa 1993.
She has nicer equipment now, but the poor harassed Andy is still getting emails about computer problems, specifically images of penguins falling into ice.
He has to explain to her complaints about links not uploading:
Andy writes in response to an email of C's today: "Yeah, there's an obvious problem with it! The link you gave is the location ON YOUR HARD DRIVE of the penguin. You obviously can't link to your hard drive from a web page. "
Claire quickly fixed the problem, receiving this thank you email from Andy in response to her most recent link: "I can't access your hard drive from my inbox any more than I can from the world wide web. :P Now if you'd like to send the penguin to me as an attachment the way a normal person would, I could try to upload it and send you a link you could use."
Andy, I feel for you. And everyone else: I would post a picture of the stupid penguin, but, well....you know.
*Claire would like to defend herself here by making two contradictory points: 1. She set up the uber complex links that you see on this blog, not Lara. 2. She once got a boyfriend by having him "set up her internet." (literally)

but then it would be on YOUR server?
what IS a server?
argh!
I dunno Claire, I may have to start using the same small words that I use when explaining computers to my mother. Just send the penguin - not its location on your hard drive - to either of us and we'll get you a link you can use.
You've got a couple broken links in your "Links" section right now, including one that's attempting to take your users to "Page I'm linking to goes here". When I said to do something "like that", I didn't mean EXACTLY the same. ;)
Don't worry - someday we'll get you discussing bits and bytes as though you were born to count in binary.
Oh btw, Ryan, if you're reading this, lemme know what you've been up to. Otero forever!
who keeps deleting posts? We are at a loss, and feel that we should be censoring (which we wouldn't) not our witty and charming readership...
loooove the penguin. you men have earned your keep.
so all this time all i had to was ask a guy to set up my internet? why didn't anyone pass on these sage advice? silly me thinking i had to win them over with my charm and wit...good to know i can throw that out the window! thank u ladies for this worldly wisdom
It works Chloe! And believe me, I've gotten some real winners!
